Stephen Vilardo’s Week 6 Matchups by the Numbers

The Pac-12 sees Oregon State all alone in first place in the North for the first time ever.

Pac-12OSU could get some assistance from Arizona State on in holding on to that spot for a little longer. The Beavers will also have to help themselves out with a win over Washington State, something they have not done since 2013.

Utah is looking to accomplish a feat they have not done since 1916, while USC looks for their 27th win of a division opponent in their last 31.

UCLA looks to right its ship against the other team from the Copper State, while Arizona just looks to get a win for the first time since October 5, 2019. 

Stanford Cardinal at Arizona State Sun Devils

Series: Stanford leads 20-12 with an 11-6 edge in Tempe

• Stanford has claimed six of the last seven between the teams.

• Herm Edwards has yet to beat Stanford. He owns a win over every other Pac-12 opponent apart from Washington and the Cardinal.

• Arizona State is looking to open conference play 3-0 for the first time since 2012.

• Stanford is playing a ranked opponent for the third-straight week. The last time they faced three ranked opponents in succession in the regular season was November of 2012.

• Stanford is one of four teams in the nation with at least two wins this season over ranked opponents. The others are Alabama, Georgia, and Arkansas.

• Stanford is 80-7 when leading at halftime under David Shaw. They are 9-27 when they enter the locker room on the downside of the scoreboard.

• Stanford has defeated at least one Top 20 opponent on the road in eight of the 11 seasons under head coach David Shaw.

McKee

• Tanner McKee is one of three quarterbacks nationally with at least 10 touchdowns and no interceptions.

• Kyu Blu Kelly is fourth in the nation with 1.8 passes defended per game. 

• Arizona State is averaging a Pac-12-best 7.23 yards per play, fourth-best in the nation.

• Rachaad White is one of four players in the FBS that is leading his team in both rush attempts and receptions.

• Arizona State is getting 3.2 sacks per game, 16th most in the nation and most in the Pac-12.

• Arizona State’s 1.0 sacks allowed are tied for the fewest in the conference and is 12th in the nation.

• ASU has run for 32 TDs in their last eight games, the most of any team in the country.

• Arizona State has rushed for 150 or more yards in 10 straight games, dating back to 2019. It is the longest such streak for ASU since a 12-game streak covering the end of 1975 and start if 1976.

• Arizona State is one of three teams in the nation that has yet to allow a play from scrimmage of 40 yards or more.

• Arizona State has not allowed an opponent to throw for more than 250 yards in any of their last eight games played.

• Since 2019, Jayden Daniels has thrown for 1,110 yards and 10 TDs in the fourth quarter. 

Oregon State Beavers at Washington State Cougars

Series: Washington State leads 55-47-3 and have a 25-17-2 mark in Pullman

• The Cougars have won seven in a row over the Beavers and the last three played in Pullman.

• The last time Oregon State had a four-game winning streak was 2013 when they won six in a row.

• Oregon State is allowing just 2.8 TFL (tackles for loss) per game, the fourth-fewest in the nation and fewest of any Pac-12 team.

• This is the first time OSU has ever been alone in first place in the North.

• Oregon State’s 1.0 sacks allowed are tied for the fewest in the Conference, and ranks 12th in the nation.

• Oregon State has not opened 3-0 in Pac-12 play since 2013.

Baylor

• B.J. Baylor ranks third in the nation with a Pac-12-leading nine rushing TDs.

• Baylor is averaging 134.5 yards rushing per game in conference play this season.

• Washington State’s QBs are getting sacked a Pac-12-high 3.2 times per game, the 14th most of any team in the country.

• Avery Roberts has posted at least 10 tackles in 11 of his 22 career games in a Beaver uniform.

• Jahad Woods has made 357 total tackles in his career, the fourth-most of any active player in the nation.

• Washington State has forced 11 takeaways in 2021, the most in the first 5 games of a season since 2017 (12).

• Those 11 takeaways are the second-most in the nation entering this weekend. 

• Last week the Cougars held Cal to 273 total yards, the fewest they have allowed in a game since 2018, when they held San Jose State to 109 in the second week of the year.

• Andrew Edson leads all Pac-12 freshmen with 4 TFL, tied for 9th-most among all Pac-12 players.

• Last week the Cougars allowed just 6 points, their fewest in a conference game since shutting out Colorado in 2017.

Series: USC holds a 13-6 all-time edge with a 9-1 mark at home vs Utah

• Utah has not won a road game in the series since 1916. USC has won the last nine meeting when hosting the Utes.

• The Utes have won their last four Pac-12 games, tied with Arizona State for the longest active streak.

• USC has opened the season without consecutive wins or losses through five games for just the third time ever, after also doing so in 1994 and 1963.

• Since 2015, USC is 26-4 against Pac-12 South opponents.

• Utah leads the Pac-12 and is seventh in the nation with 8.5 TFL per game.

• Utah has had just two plays this season of 40+ yards

• Against Washington State, TJ Pledger had 117 yards on the ground, all in the second half, becoming the first Ute since 2013 to have 100+ rushing yards in a game without a carry in the first half.

Reid

• Karene Reid’s 15 tackles vs WSU were the most in the Pac-12 this season by a true freshman. It is also the top figure by a true freshman at Utah since at least 2005.

• Van Fillinger also collected three sacks last time out, the most ever in a game by a Utah freshman.

• Utah has returned an interception for a touchdown in 18 seasons. 

• USC’s 1.0 sacks allowed are tied for the fewest in the conference and 12th in the nation

• Drake London ranks second in the nation with 9.6 receptions per game and 134.0 receiving yards per game.

• USC is allowing 11.7 PPG in their three wins this season, 43.5 PPG in their two losses.

Series: UCLA leads the all-time series 26-17-2, Arizona leads 13-10 in Tucson

• The Wildcats have won the last two meetings in Tucson. Arizona is 6-2 vs UCLA in the last 8 played in the desert.

• UCLA is looking to win three straight conference road games for the first time since 2015.

• The Bruins have outrushed opponents in 11-straight games. It is the longest streak for them since a 15-game stretch from 1984-85.

• Arizona’s 16-game losing streak is tied for the longest in the nation.

• Dorian Thompson-Robinson ranks sixth in the nation with a Pac-12-best 16.03 yards per completion.

• Last week Greg Dulcich had a career-high 9 receptions for 136 yards. 

• Entering the weekend, Kyle Philips ranks sixth in the nation with six receiving TDs this season. 

• Arizona is allowing 9.0 TFL per game, the fourth most in the nation. 

Berryhill

• Stanley Berryhill III has caught 33% of Arizona’s passes, the 11th-highest percentage in the country

• Berryhill has 225 yards after catch this season.

• Arizona has an NCAA-leading seven fourth-down conversions this season.

• Arizona has held their opponents under 400 total yards in three of their four games this season after doing that only once in 17 games in 2019 and 2020.

• UCLA has won 37 straight overall games and 56 straight regular season games in which it has held the opponent to fewer than 20 points.

• Greg Dulcich is second in the nation among TEs with 19.56 yards per reception.
